From the initial phase of the Project, hydrogeological evaluations of the aquifers have been carried out in the area. These assessments have been achieved through vertical electrical sounding, in different positions, along the N-S- and E-W profiles covering over 300 kms of lenght. Once this information was obtained, some exploratory and production wells were drilled at different locations, sampling them with continuous pumping in order to establish a possible future implementation of sustainable development of water use.

All the evaluations performed have revealed this area has a great potential of underground water, with strong aquifers that have not been upstream exploitations and with large recharges areas in the Central Precordillera Andean foothills, where the rain and snowfall regime is higher than that of lower areas.
